Click the new thread button. Put a subject line (an good example would be your question, though some people prefer something along the lines of: "DESPERATE! HELP PLEASE!")
After you have the subject line, go more into detail on your question. Such as, "I've looked and looked, but I don't know what 'new thread' button this crazy person's talking about!" Or something...
Or if you put the "DESPERATE" for the subject line, then detail your question in the message box.
The last step is keep checking back to see if someone has answered your question. If they have, then reply back that they have answered, simply by posting the word "answered." If you'd like them to clarify, you could PM the person, or reply back to them on the thread asking for clarification.
