Make sure once you get your character(s) accepted you request a bank account so that you have money to spend 
Also note that the amount of money your character starts out with depends upon your character application. The starting amount will largely depend on what you write in your description (especially the history/background).
If you do not want to leave it to chance, simply say so and you will start off with the general amount for your character's placement.
